No, thank you and Stay Away from Negative Influences
Vulnerable minds get prejudiced by adult behavior and deeds and the media. Peer pressure has an effect on not only children and adolescents; it is also ubiquitous in adults. It shows a lack of confidence when people do not have the nerves to say “No, thank you,” and excuse themselves from negative influences. Now, let us take a look at these negative influences?
Negative people
The regrettable part of life is as Oliver Wendall Holmes once said, “Most people go to their graves, with music still in them.” We don’t accomplish brilliance because of our own lack of vision. If you are desperate to soar like an eagle, you have to learn the method of an eagle. If you connect with achievers, you will become one. If you associate with givers, you will become one. If you link with negative people, you will become one. Whenever people succeed in life, mean people will take cracks at them and try to drag them down. When you say no to fight those petty people, you win. In Martial arts, they teach that when someone takes a crack at you, instead of blocking you should step away. Why? Blocking requires energy. Why not use it more creatively? Likewise, in order to fight mean people, you have to come down to their level. That is what they want, because now you are one of them. Don’t allow negative people drag you down. Remember that your character is not only judged by the company you keep but also by the company you avoid.
Smoking, Drugs and Alcohol
I’m sure you have noticed that in some countries drinking has become a national pastime. If you don’t drink, they look at you as if there is something wrong. Their motto is: “It doesn’t matter how bad your English is, as long as your Scotch is good.” Drinking and smoking are glamorized today. It all starts with the first time. If you ask people why they drink alcohol or take drugs, they will give you a multitude of reasons, such as: to celebrate; to have fun; to forget problems; to calm down; to experiment; to make an impression on others (it is cool to drink); to socialize.
Pornography
It is nothing except dehumanizing women and children. The consequences of pornography are that it
• dehumanizes woman
• oppress children
• breaks marriages
• promotes sexual violence
• makes fun of ethical and moral ideals
• obliterates individuals, households and societies
According to National Victim Center, a woman is raped in the United States every 56 seconds. 83% of rapists confess to regular use of pornography. It is also sad to see how low some people will stoop to make a buck by making pornography their business.
Profanity
Using profanities show a lack of vocabulary, willpower, and self-control.
Rock Music
The lyrics of some hit songs are obscene. The music we hear and the shows we watch can subconsciously influence us.
Academic instruction isn’t the only responsibility teachers have in today’s classrooms. More and more, teachers are being called on to teach students about values … things like making good decisions, the showing of respect, taking responsibility, choosing friends, and having a positive attitude. It’s a responsibility that could be overwhelming, considering the limited hours available in a school day, the number of kids in the classroom, and the diversity of backgrounds and personalities each child represents.
